Notice the chlorine smell when you shower? This shower head water filter screws in between your shower arm and your shower head or hose, and reduces chlorine before the water reaches you. How often to replace the filter
Swap the cartridge every six months, or sooner if your water is very dirty. It unscrews from the housing, so there's nothing to re-plumb. Replacement cartridges are $43.99. Want the year sorted? Our shower filter kit with a spare cartridge covers 12 months for $122.99.
Fitting your shower filter
It's designed to fit any standard New Zealand shower or tap thread, and screws straight in without changing your plumbing. It works with all shower pressures, with minimal or no reduction in pressure.
- Unscrew your shower head or hose from the shower arm.
- Wrap thread seal tape around the threads.
- Pop a sealing washer in each end and screw the filter on.
- Screw your shower head or hose onto the filter.
- Run the water for 5–10 minutes to flush out any carbon dust before your first shower.

Will it fit my shower?
It's designed to fit any standard New Zealand shower or tap thread. It screws in between your shower arm and your shower head or hose. Everything you need is in the box: the filter housing, a 15-stage cartridge, thread seal tape, two silicone sealing washers and instructions. There's no plumber needed, and most people have it on in under five minutes. The housing is about 8.3 cm wide and 11.9 cm tall, so check you've got room above your shower head. Before your first shower, run water through it for 5–10 minutes to clear any carbon dust.
What does the shower filter take out of my water?
Mainly chlorine. NZ town water has to carry a little chlorine through the pipes to keep it safe to drink, and that's the smell you notice in a hot shower. Our cartridge uses KDF 55 and calcium sulphite, which are chosen because they still work in hot water, plus activated carbon for smell. Its 15 stages are: stainless steel mesh (4 layers), polypropylene cotton (2 layers), alkaline ceramic balls, Maifan stones, ceramic balls, vitamin C balls, coconut activated carbon, germanium balls, magnetic energy balls, double-strength KDF 55 and triple-strength calcium sulphite. It reduces fluoride but doesn't remove it completely. Total fluoride removal needs a full reverse osmosis system.
How often do I change the cartridge?
We recommend a new cartridge every six months. If your water's very dirty, it'll need changing more often. Replacement cartridges are $43.99. If you'd rather be set for the year, our kit comes with a spare cartridge, so that's 12 months of filtering for $122.99.
Does a shower filter soften hard water?
Not really. It isn't a water softener. It's built to reduce chlorine, and it doesn't take out the calcium and magnesium that cause hard-water scale. If chlorine is what's drying out your skin and hair, it's a cheap, simple fix at the shower head. If limescale is your main problem, that's a job for a whole-house system.
Will it lower my water pressure?
It's designed to work with all shower water pressures, with minimal or no reduction in pressure, and it screws straight in without changing your plumbing.
Is it a vitamin C shower filter?
Partly. One of its 15 stages is vitamin C balls, but most of the work on chlorine is done by double-strength KDF 55 and triple-strength calcium sulphite, which keep working in hot water. NZ town supplies are disinfected with chlorine, so that combination suits most Kiwi homes.
Is the shower filter covered by the 90-day trial?
No. Our 90-day Feel Better trial covers our grounding bed mats only. But if the filter doesn't fit your water system, you can return it as long as it's kept in resellable condition. If you ordered the wrong thing, we're also happy to swap or refund it if it's brand new and unused. It also has our 12-month warranty.

Our council just complied with fluoridation of the water which was an opportunity to look at our water more closely. Product information says the filter doesn't remove all fluoride but we're extremely happy with this filter. Firstly,...so easy to connect. There was an instant change in the quality of the water, firstly, it felt lighter then I noticed the smell & taste of chemical seemed to have gone. We've used for approximately 6 weeks now & are so thankful for the obvious health benefits to skin & hair. We've noticed less hair fall & superb softness to the hair even when not using conditioner much like when you've bathed in a river. No hard coating on the hair after washing. My daughter's skin has cleared from psoriasis & I can now minimize using any after shower moisturizer. We also only drink filtered water so no doubt internally this helps.
