Smart Meter Cover NZ – RF Shielding Mesh, Fits Most Kiwi Meters

A soft, flexible beige shielding cover that slips over your smart meter and cuts the radio-frequency signal it gives off into your home. Your meter still sends its readings, and you can still read the display through the mesh.
Lots of Kiwi homes have the meter on the other side of a bedroom wall. One customer put it like this: "Our son's bedroom has a smart meter on the back of the wall, approx 2m from where he sleeps." This is a simple, no-tools way to dial things down.
What it does (and what it doesn't)
- Shields RF at the meter. Copper/nickel-coated polyester mesh that blocked 99.7%+ of the signal in our in-store tests.
- Readings still get through. It reduces the signal; it doesn't stop your meter working.
- Not a fix for every source. It covers the meter only. To see what's going on in your home, pair it with our EMF Household Tester.
Will it fit my meter?
It fits meters up to 280 × 190 × 150 mm deep, which covers most NZ meters, including the EDMI Atlas pictured. Grab a tape measure before you order. If it doesn't fit, send it back for a full refund.
Fitting it (about a minute)
Don't open the meter or touch any wiring. The cover goes over the outside only. Full instructions are included in the pack.
- Open your meter box.
- Pull the elastic opening over the top of the meter, then ease it down and under the bottom. A second pair of hands helps.
- Tighten the adjustable ribbon so it sits snug, and close the box.
Want it off for a meter reader or electrician? It slips straight off.
Also handy on your Wi-Fi router
Some customers pop a cover over the router at night to tame a strong signal.

Is it legal to cover my smart meter?
The cover simply sits over the outside of the meter. It doesn't tamper with the meter, and your readings still get through. The meter belongs to your lines company or retailer, so don't open it, and take the cover off if they need access.
Will my power company still get my readings?
Yes. The mesh reduces the signal, but your readings still get through. If your retailer ever reports a missed read, loosen or remove the cover and let us know.
How do I know if it fits?
Measure your meter: it needs to be no bigger than 280 mm tall, 190 mm wide and 150 mm deep. Not sure? Send us a photo at hello@groundedkiwi.nz.
Do I need an electrician?
No. It's a fabric cover that slips over the outside of the meter. Don't open the meter or touch any wiring.
How can I check it's working?
Use an RF meter, like our EMF Household Tester, and take a reading in front of the meter before and after fitting.

Our son’s bedroom has a smart meter on the back of the wall, approx 2m from where he sleeps at night. For a long time he has had unsettled sleep patterns, and he would actually go and sleep on the couch because of “bad vibes” and being unable to sleep. It’s a new build for reference. I was suspicious of the smart meter - our routers are also in another adjacent room. I got the smart meter cover and a shungite egg for him, and he’s been sleeping fine ever since!

I put one of mine over the internet router, as I tested the output with my emf metre reader, and when I put the cover over the router the reading dropped enormously.

I recently moved into a new flat and purchased a smart meter cover and was amazed to feel a huge change in energy, the minute the cover was put over my smart meter. It's hard to explain, but I could feel a huge nothing ness, whereby the energy in front of the meter,in my room and hallway was very uncomfortable before the cover went on. I am sleeping better too as the meter is directly opposite my bedroom door and faces the head of my bed.
