Brain Fog, Moving Boxes, and the Dr. Berg Sleep Secret

If you’ve been following our journey lately, you know things are a bit flat-out here at Grounded Kiwi. We’re in the middle of moving out of the home garage and into the new showroom, I’m training up the new guy, and 'SuperHayley' is away for a well-deserved break with her family.

I’ll be honest—my brain is running over full capacity. And my sleep score? It’s taken a hit. I usually sit around 90-96, but lately, I’ve been struggling to crack into the 70s.

I was listening to a masterclass by Dr. Berg the other day and he said something that really hit home: "We sleep to detoxify our brains. If you notice when you don't sleep, it feels like your brain is toxic." When he said that, I looked at my mountain of moving boxes and my foggy head and thought, “Yep, that’s exactly where I’m at right now.”

Why your head feels "Dusty"

Dr. Berg explains that when your sleep is shallow or too short, your brain doesn't have the time to clear out the "cellular debris" from the day. You wake up with a heavy head, a short fuse, and that dreaded brain fog.

He shared some "do-able" tips that I’ve been trying to stick to even amongst the chaos of the move:

  1. Kill the Blue Light: Phones and computers tell your brain the sun is up. Put them away or chuck on some Blue Light Blockers 2 hours before bed. Give your melatonin a fighting chance.

  2. The Taranaki Air: Your body needs to cool down to get into deep sleep. Crack a window and get the room between 16°C and 20°C.

  3. Nose Breathing & Stretching: Shifting from "Fight or Flight" to "Rest & Repair" is vital. You can't detox your brain if your body thinks it’s still carrying heavy boxes!

The "Bees Knees" of Sleep Hacks

Dr. Berg mentioned that people always sleep better when they’re camping. He thinks it’s the sound—but we know better. It’s because you’re grounded. You know that feeling when you spend a day at the beach and you just feel right? That’s not just the fresh air; it’s your body’s electrical system getting back in sync with the Earth. Nature... who knew, right?

While I’m flat-out with the showroom, the one thing I’m NOT compromising on is my 8-hour grounding session. Zero Willpower Required The best part about sleeping on a Grounding Mat is that it takes absolutely zero effort. I don’t have time for a 20-step meditation routine right now (although that's probably a decent idea) . I just need to hop into bed, close my eyes, and let the mat do the heavy lifting while I rest and reset.

Sleeping on my grounding mat helps to clean out the inflammation, calms the nervous system, and shields me from the EMFs in the house. It’s the easiest way to help my brain "clear the debris" so I can wake up and get back to the move as well as be a nice person to be around.

If your brain is feeling a bit toxic lately, do yourself (and the people you live with) a favour. Get grounded, get that sleep score back up, and start working with nature instead of against it.
