5 Winter Wellness Hacks to Keep You Feeling Awesome

Kia ora, fellow natural wellness members

With winter looming, it's time to amp up our immune systems and kick those winter blues to the curb. So, grab a hot brew and let's dive into some winter wellness tips to get you feeling refreshed and ready for the season!

Connect with the Earth's Natural Healing Powers

Ever heard of "Earthing"? It's like getting a warm hug from Mother Nature herself! Grounding, as it's known, involves kicking off your shoes and getting your toes in the grass or sand. Tuning into the Earth's natural vibes can boost our immune system and ease inflammation. But what if outdoor earthing isn't an option during the chilly months? No worries! Consider investing in grounded exercise mats or bedding to stay connected with the Earth's energy indoors.

We believe that having a easy connection to the Earth inside the home is the best way to get more time and wellness. It has to be easy so that we actually do it each and every day.

When people new to Earthing ask me "What is the one item you recommend?" the answer is always the same, our Earthing Mat / Grounding mat. Why? Because all you need to do is to go to bed! It doesn't get any easier than that if you ask me. No need to physically connect a wristband or spend time sitting on a pad. When you go to bed you get 8+ hours of connection!

Say Goodbye to Late-Night Screen Time

We've all been guilty of scrolling through our phones late into the night. But did you know that the blue light from screens can mess with your sleep? It's time to break free from the screen addiction and unwind with a good book instead. Not only will this help you relax before bed, but it'll also improve your sleep quality. For extra protection against blue light, consider grabbing some blue light-blocking glasses. They filter out the harmful rays, allowing your body to wind down naturally for a restful sleep.

Best way to feel this change is to just do it! Leaving the phone our of the bedroom at night should be a habit we all get into.

Stay Active Indoors

Don't let the cold weather keep you cooped up indoors! There are plenty of ways to stay active inside, from yoga sessions to indoor workouts or even a dance party in your living room (Having kids can help here). Keeping active not only keeps you fit but also lifts your spirits and boosts your mood. And if you're lucky enough to have a sauna, make the most of it! Saunas are known for their health benefits, like improving circulation and detoxifying the body. Plus, there's nothing like stepping out of a sauna feeling completely invigorated! New research on having multiple saunas per week are showing some amazing benefits, especially for the brain and fighting off early onset of Alzheimer's. This unfortunately runs in the family for me, so off to the sauna I go at my local gym most early mornings.

Nourish Your Gut, Lift Your Mood

They say the gut is the second brain, so it's crucial to treat it right. Load up on gut-friendly foods like yogurt, sauerkraut, kombucha and my favorite 'Miso soup' to keep your microbiome happy.

A healthy gut supports your immune system and can even improve your mood. And if you're craving some fresh air, why not enjoy your meal outside? Just wrap up warm and avoid the rain. There's something special about dining al fresco, especially in the colder months. Kinda like being on holiday when you are eating in a different environment, especially if you have been working inside all day.

Create a Cosy Sleep Sanctuary

There is nothing more important than getting quality sleep, its the key to good health.

It's important to create a sleep-friendly environment in your bedroom. Dim the lights, snuggle up in your comfiest blankets, and let the calming power of earthing help you drift off. Consider adding some red lights to your evening routine—they're known to promote relaxation and improve sleep quality. And don't forget to ground your bedding for an extra dose of sleep-enhancing benefits.

As we navigate the winter months, let's make self-care a priority and focus on supporting our well-being. By incorporating these simple wellness practices into our daily routines, we can stay healthy, happy, and thriving all season long. Remember to listen to your body, stay mindful of your health, and take time for yourself. Here's to a winter filled with warmth, wellness, and plenty of Kiwi smiles!

Happy earthing,

Blake
