When you’re looking for an earthing mat in NZ, you’ll likely see ads from GroundingWell or PremiumGrounding popping up in your feed. They look flashy and make some audacious claims, but once you peel back the marketing "fluff," the physics tells a different story.
The "Fragile Silver" Problem (GroundingWell) - Lowest quality
Most of these big overseas brands, like GroundingWell (China-based not US as they claim), rely on silver-fibre technology. Here’s the breakdown:
The "Yeah, Nah" Reality: Silver is an incredible conductor at first. But silver is also a delicate metal. Every time you wash those cotton-silver sheets, the silver fibres snap. Worse, the natural oils from your skin and the minerals in your sweat cause the silver to oxidise (like an old silver spoon turning black). Once it oxidises, it loses its ability to conduct and keep you grounded.
You end up with a very expensive, ordinary cotton sheet that stops grounding you after a few months. It’s a lot of money to spend on something that literally "washes away."
